Kristall to reduce diamond cutting by 12% to 106 000 carats in 2015

18 september 2015
(RIA Novosti) – Kristall from Smolensk, the largest diamond manufacturer in Russia, expects a decrease in diamond polishing by 12.4 percent in 2015 – to 106 000 carats valued at $200 million. In 2014, the company manufactured 121 000 carats of diamonds worth $315 million, according to the company's director Maxim Shkadov cited by RIA Novosti.
"If we talk about the beginning of the year, the sales volume was slightly less in the first six months of the year - $69.1 million, or 49 000 carats. During the first half of 2014 the company manufactured 61 000 carats of diamonds worth $170.6 million. This is directly related to what is happening in the market,"- said Shkadov.
According to Shkadov, this year the financial performance of both Kristall and diamond producing companies will be affected. "The market is in a tailspin, and it is difficult to predict what will be the way out of it, but I don't think the bright prospects will emerge before the end of the year. The main thing is that we keeping our team intact, there will be no layoffs. We understand that changes constantly occur, and training of employees it is very difficult, so we do not scatter our staff,"- Shkadov added.
PO Kristall is the largest diamond manufacturer in Russia. The company is the biggest buyer of ALROSA's diamonds.
