Another kimberlite pipe found in Anantapur district in India

29 december 2014

Several promising kimberlite pipes were found in the Kalyandurg cluster of Anantapur district in Andhra Pradesh so far, some of them are thought to be not only diamondiferous, but also particularly rich in gemstone value, reports gjepc.org.
During the course of recent explorations conducted by the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI), yet one more such kimberlite was discovered. Dubbed the KL-7 (being the seventh pipe to be found in the area), this one was located through aerial surveys along with the use of remote sensing technology.
NGRI has been carrying out explorations in Kalyandurg region of Ananatapur spread over 2,300 sq km after the prospecting license has been renewed.
According to scientists, the discovery unfolded when subsequent drilling was performed at a suspected kimberlite region, revealing the kimberlite pipe in Anantapur district.
The scientists are considering a further course of action to undertake additional explorations, reports add.
