The Namibia Diamond Trading Company (NDTC), a joint venture between the Namibian government and De Beers has so far this year paid $61.5 million in diamond dividends to Windhoek.
Its latest cheque to government was N$100 million ($8.7 million), according to New Era.
Namibia's Minister of Mines and Energy Isak Katali was quoted as saying that the diamond industry was the largest contributor in royalty to government.

“Government and NDTC continue to engage in good faith negotiations with the goal to ensure that more value is added to our diamonds and to create a viable and sustainable diamond beneficiation sector,” said Katali.
He also said progress had been made on creating additional diamond cutting and polishing factories in the country.
