Railway Budget brings cheer to Indian diamond industry

10 july 2014

The proposed ‘Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train’ in the Indian Railway Budget on 8-7-2014 has brought some cheer to the diamond industry. The New Government has announced a bullet train that is expected to reduce travel time between Surat and Ahmedabad to less than a third by the current fastest train.
“This would be a big game changer as Surat would be easily accessible to foreign buyers," said Dinesh Navadiya, President of Surat Diamond Association.
The bullet train would also speed up business in the industry, as the parcels containing precious stones, both rough and polished, are sent by angadias or diamond couriers by train to Surat and other cutting centres in Gujarat.
