Graff Yellow Diamond Fetches $16 Million at Sotheby’s in Geneva

14 may 2014

A 100-carat Graff yellow diamond ring sold for 14.5 million Swiss francs ($16 million) last night at a Sotheby’s (BID) auction in Geneva, a day before Christie’s International plans to sell a blue diamond for as much as $25 million, based on the top estimate, Bloomberg reports.
The Graff daffodil yellow diamond features on a list of the world’s largest cut diamonds in the book “Famous Diamonds” by Ian Balfour. The estimate, not including the buyer’s premium, had been 13.4 million francs to 22.3 million francs. The 14.5 million-franc sale price includes the buyer’s premium.
The Geneva spring auction season will climax as Christie’s is scheduled to sell The Blue, the largest flawless vivid blue diamond in the world. Sotheby’s will also put 300 timepieces on the block, including a collection of Rolex Submariners, in a sale it estimates may raise 7 million francs.
A 1927 Patek Philippe watch made for collector Henry Graves Jr. sold for 1.2 million Swiss francs at Christie’s two days ago as the auction house sold 23.8 million francs of timepieces. A Rolex customized for the Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said al-Said, fetched 485,000 francs.
