Angola expands diamond prospecting in Huíla province

Angola said it will now expand the prospecting for diamonds to the entire Huíla province to confirm the strong indication of diamonds.
Angolan state newspaper Jornal de Angola quoted the provincial director for Industry, Geology and Mines, Paula Joaquim as saying that they wanted to determine the quantity and quality of diamonds in the province for future exploration.
Meanwhile, Joaquim said that prospecting, reconnaissance and assessment of new mining resources was also underway in Quipungo and Matala municipalities.
She said a gold project was due to start in the Limpopo area of Jamba municipality next year.
Angola’s geology and mining minister, Francisco Queirós also said that copper mining was progressing well in the Mavoio area of the Maquela do Zombo municipality of Uíge province.
The Mavoio mine was expected to produce 20,000 tonnes of copper per month.
So far $22 million had been spent on prospecting work in the area.
