Namibian mines minister latest African official to join DDE board

20 march 2014

The Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE) has appointed Namibia’s mines minister Isak Katali to its board of directors.
He is the latest official from the African diamond producing countries to be roped in by the ambitious DDE.
The diamond exchange recently appointed Mbada Diamonds chairperson Robert Mhlanga to its board.
His appointment had followed two other appointees last year.
These were Zimbabwe's permanent secretary of Mines and Mining Development Francis Gudyanga and the chief executive of the South African Diamond and Precious Metals Regulator (SADPMR), Levy Rapoo.
The Namibian mines minister said he was privileged to be a part ‎of the DDE.
“[DDE is] the first diamond exchange to formally recognize the ‎importance of the African producers," he said.‎
Meanwhile, the Dubai Multi-Commodities Centre (DMCC) executive chairperson Ahmed Bin Sulayem said Katali’s years of ‎experience would help the DMCC solidify collaboration between producing ‎countries and consuming countries in Asia, along the New Silk Route.
