CIBJO Congress 2014 to be Held in Moscow

18 february 2014

From 17 to 21 May, 2014 Moscow will host annual congress of the World Jewellery Confederation CIBJO.
CIBJO Congress will bring together heads of national jewellery associations from more than 40 countries as well as representatives of many of important specialized associations and industrial structures. Russian Jewellers Guild Association will be the host of the prestigious global jewelry forum, supported by the Gokhran of Russia.
On February, 11, the Ceremonial Hall of the Russian Jewellers Guild was the venue for press conference on the topic “CIBJO Congress in Moscow and its importance for the development of the Russian jewellery art and jewelry industry as a whole."
The press conference was attended by Chairman of the Board of the Russian Jewellers Guild Gagik Gevorkyan and president of the National Foundation for development of the Russian jewellery art Galina Ananyina who responded to questions from journalists representing news agencies and specialized sectoral mass media - ITAR-TASS, "Navigator for jewellery trade," "Timeseller", "The Russian Business Registry" and other media.
Gagik Gevorkyan, chairman of the Russian Jewellers Guild, reminded the participants of the International Jewellery Economic Forum held in September, 2013, in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce of the Russian Federation. Gevorkyan spoke about the direct dialogue established between jewellery community and authorities overseeing the jewellery industry. Chairman of the Board reported that the number of members of the Association more than doubled over the last year. He said that jewellers hope to find effective solution for many crucial problems and to unfold new prospects for future development of the industry.

Answering journalists' questions Gevorkyan informed all the participants of the press conference about the objectives and initiatives of the Guild for the upcoming Congress and emphasized that the previous 15 years of the Guild’s activities and development were fruitful and formed a good springboard to leap."
The upcoming CIBJO Congress in May, destined to become a large step forward for the entire industry was the main focus of the above press conference.
It is noteworthy that during a few years Russia did not participate in CIBJO’s activities and it only recently re-integrated with the World Jewellery Confederation. For the first time Moscow has been selected to host the Congress, which will bring a lot of important decisions for the global industry.
Moscow will welcome more than 40 national associations of the world, and a visit of Angelina Jolie is announced as a special event.
The Russian Jewelers Guild will hold a gala reception. As part of the cultural program foreign guests of the Congress will visit the Diamond Fund, the Bolshoi Theatre and other important sights being the pride of the Russian culture.
President of the National Foundation of jewellery art Galina Ananyina was speaking about the purpose of establishing the foundation and its objectives. In particular, she expressed concern that the modern jewelry is poorly represented in state museums, including in the Diamond Fund of Gokhran.
Contemporary masterpieces sometimes even surpass the technical level of craftsmanship and creations of Karl Faberge and P.Ovchinnikov are stored in private collections. The Foundation aims to fix this situation. Thus, the Ceremonial hall of the Russian Jewellers Guild will feature a gallery named The Russian Prestige designed to become the prototype of the future National Museum of Modern jewellery.
Meanwhile, the Foundation will actively promote and preserve traditions of the jewellery art: this year it will hold several events related to anniversaries and devoted to great jewellers of the past, including I.Khlebnikov, I. Marshak and others.
National Foundation of jewellery art and the Russian Jewellers Guild are determined to support the investment attractiveness of the jewellery art and further strengthen the image of the domestic jewellery.
