Former Botswana President Mogae Joins Shrenuj’s Board

30 may 2012

Former Botswana President Festus G. Mogae has joined the board of Shrenuj & Co. as an independent director, the Mumbai-based diamond company reported, cited by Rapaport.
“Mr. Mogae brings a great wealth of knowledge in areas including finance, economics, corporate governance, and leadership. He has been an exceptional role model in leadership and has in-depth understanding of diamond-economics,” said Shreyas Doshi, the chairman and managing director of Shrenuj. “He will add exceptional value to our eminent board.”
Doshi noted that a significant part of the company’s growth is expected to come from diamond producing countries given it has manufacturing operations in Botswana and South Africa. He explained that insights provided by Mogae into these producing centers will help Shrenuj achieve its targets.
Mogae currently serves as special envoy of the United Nations secretary-general on climate change. He studied economics in the United Kingdom, first at University College, Oxford, and then at the University of Sussex. He returned to Botswana to work as a civil servant before taking up posts with the International Monetary Fund and the Bank of Botswana. Mogae was vice president of Botswana from 1992 to 1998 and rose to the post of president in 1998 and served two full terms until 2008. In 2010, he joined the advisory board of U.S. nonprofit group TeachAIDS.
