Botswana to Promote Pride in its Diamonds

04 april 2012

The southern African nation of Botswana was embarked on a promotional campaign to highlight the country's diamond industry. BEDIA, the Botswana Export Development and Investment Authority, launched the initiative, called "Our Diamonds, Our Pride", in coordination with diamond company Debswana, Diamond News reported.
Botswana Trade and Industry Minister Dorcas Makgato-Malesu, attending the launch, noted the size and significance of the Debswana company to the country's national economy. Makgato-Malesu extolled the importance of a joint government-corporate national co-branding campaign of the country's diamonds.
Debswana Managing Director Jim Gowans told the assembled audience that the company wants the Batswani people to take pride in its accomplishments, noting that it is also the property of the people, since it is partly government-owned.
Debswana has mined diamonds in Botswana for 42 years. The concept for the "Our Diamonds, Our Pride" campaign was developed in 2009, but now it will be disseminated in print, radio, television and other media, according to Diamond News.
