Rosnedra will complete diamond exploration at three properties in the Arkhangelsk Territory in 2Q of 2010

Rosnedra (The Federal Agency on Subsoil Usage) is to finalize prospect evaluation survey for diamonds at three properties located in the Arkhangelsk Territory in the 2nd quarter of 2010, Interfax agency reported.
According to information provided by Rosnedra, prospecting works have been conducted at Otugsky and Olmugsky districts of Kepinskaya area and at Onezhskaya area since 2 quarter of 2007.
The total cost of works conducted at the first two districts is estimated at 90M rubles, prospecting works at Onezhskaya area will cost 83.18M rubles.
Diamond mining activities in the Arkhangelsk Territory are now conducted by Severalmaz (being ALROSA subsidiary) which is developing diamond deposit named after Lomonosov. Estimated reserves of this deposit amount to 400M tones of ore, containing 220M carats of diamonds (worth $12 billion). Jewelry diamonds account for over one half of stock extracted from the deposit.
Meanwhile Pipe named after Grib (the Grib diamond deposit) owned by LUKOIL (previously De Beers put claims for a share in this project) is also located in the Arkhangelsk Territory. Mining activities at Grib deposit are projected to start in 2015. The capacity of mining and processing plant to be constructed at the project will amount to 4.5 M tones of ore per year, lifetime of the mine to be 25 – 35 years depending on the method of mining selected.
Moreover, in accordance with to the data provided by Rosnedra, the Agency will complete prospecting works at primary diamond deposits within Olenekskoye high in the Republic of Yakutia their cost being 150M rubles (prospecting works were started in 1Q of 2007).
