Midex confident Magembe Diamond Mine would be profitable

07 september 2009

Midex Gold, which is operating some precious mineral projects in Tanzania says the acquisition  of Williamson (Mwadui) Mine by Petra Diamonds from De Beers last year has to some extent reinforced the company’s “belief” that its 46 square kilometer Magembe diamond property, which is directly adjacent to the vast mine had the potential to become a world-class diamond mine.
The Williamson openpit mine produced some 20-million carats over the last 70 years, and Petra estimated that the asset had a resource of some 40-million carats.
Midex announced last month that it had started the exploration programme on the Magembe Diamond property, which is expected to yield 200 to 300 samples, while about 50 tonnes of alluvial gravels would be sampled and tested.
