Shanghai Diamond Exchange Favours Governmental Support to Diamond Producers

Chinese professional diamond community favours the initiative by China’s Ministry of Commerce involving support of local diamond producers. As Shanghai Diamond Exchange Vice President Caroline Yuan told Rough&Polished, “at present Chinese Government is planning to support diamond industry by means of assistance to diamond dealers and producers.” On the other hand she stressed that she does not know whether the Chinese Government is planning to purchase large consignment of rough diamonds from ALROSA. “I have no information of that particular deal,” - Caroline Yuan said.
Speaking to Rough&Polished reporter ALROSA official stated that he “did not have any information of such pending negotiations.”
Previously it was stated in reports of the initiative of China’s Ministry of Commerce to support domestic diamond producers and pending negotiations on the purchase of large quantity of rough diamonds from ALROSA till the end of 2009 as well as buyout of almost all its diamond output of 2010.
