Head of De Beers' U.S. marketing team resigns

The man responsible for introducing several of De Beers' most iconic beacon marketing programs to the U.S. market has resigned, JWT North America announced on Tuesday.
Richard Lennox, who has served as the U.S. director-in-charge of the De Beers account at advertising firm JWT for the past 10 years, is leaving the company, effective July 24, National Jeweler Network reported.
Industry sources say he is leaving to pursue another job in the jewelry industry.
Following his departure, the existing management team of Lisa Cochin, Emmy Kondo, Sally Morrison and Colby Shergalis will continue on, supervising the De Beers account at JWT.
During Lennox's 10-year tenure, JWT created and implemented the Millennium campaign, and the three-stone, right-hand ring and Journey beacon programs.
In a press release, Lennox called his work on the De Beers account one of the most "satisfying" of his career, and that it allowed him to learn about the diamond industry.
De Beers Group's Stephen Lussier said Lennox's work at JWT contributed to the diamond industry as a whole.
"Richard has made an unbelievable contribution to the whole industry," he said in the release. "Through JWT, he has created powerful ideas that have excited consumers and driven growth in the trade."
Following Lennox's departure, the marketing team's main focus will be supervising De Beers' 2009 holiday marketing campaign, which they having been working on with Lennox over the past several months.
Morrison, a senior partner at JWT, said the team is sorry to see Lennox go.
"We're very sad that he's leaving the account because he been such a big part of what we did every day," she said.
