The 2009 HRD Awards diamond jewellery design contest organised by Antwerp World Diamond Centre reaches its climax on Thursday evening with the announcement of the winner of the competition and four finalists.
A professional jury of the 13th edition of the “HRD Awards”, the biennial diamond jewellery contest for young designers organised by Antwerp World Diamond Centre, selected 39 finalists from 12 countries - Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, India, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, South Korea, Thailand and the United States.
The contest offers a forum to designers to present and promote their jewels worldwide.
The 2009 theme is “Once upon a time…my favourite fairy tale”. The artist is given free rein. Antwerp diamond companies can apply to sponsor one of the selected designs.
Not less than 654 artists submitted 1089 designs for the 13th edition of the HRD Awards. The criteria were creativity, aesthetic quality, wearability and craftsmanship.
The winner of the competition will be awarded € 5.000. All the laureates benefit from an international promotion programme that accompanies the contest. The jewellery pieces will be exhibited in the Diamond Museum Province Antwerp in July and August 2009. The exhibition then travels abroad during one year (China, Japan, Italy etc.).
