Severalmaz to commission 2 stage of Lomonosovsky ore processing plant by 2014

OJSC Severalmaz (subsidiary of ALROSA) is planning to commission 2nd stage of ore processing plant at Lomonosovsky minefield located in the Arkhangelsk Region by the year of 2014, according to the company’s Vice President Nikolay Abramov speaking at the round table on gold and diamond mining held on Tuesday.
He said that capacity of 2nd stage will reach 5.6 mln tones of ore per year. 1st stage functioning at present time allows processing of 1 mln tones of ore per year. Abramov noted that since commissioning of 1st stage in June 2005 1.65 million carats worth of diamonds had been produced.
Lomonosovsky diamond field was discovered in 1980. Its diamond reserves are estimated at 440 mln tones of ore containing 220 mln worth of rough diamonds (amounted at about $12 billion), more than a half of recovered diamonds being of jewelry quality.
