ALROSA to restructure its distribution system

Russian miner ALROSA is going to reorganize its distribution system, according to Interfax.
Distribution structure of ALROSA is going to be reformed to three independent departments: Grading and furnishing unit, Client servicing and marketing unit, Sales unit.
“This is made primarily to avoid conflict of interest which usually arises where three functions are concentrated in single unit” – ALROSA spokesperson said.
The company believes that new organization of distribution will lead to increase in efficiency of market monitoring and help ALROSA to pass on to long-term contracts with clients.
Previously ALROSA launched a pilot project on sales of expensive diamonds for investment purposes. Moreover, the world’s largest mining companies – ALROSA, De Beers, BHP, Rio Tinto, and jeweler producer Harry Winston – launched joint generic marketing campaign aimed at restoration of consumer demand for diamonds.
