Versace tiara to be auctioned for AIDS charity

11 march 2009

Online jewelry retailer Bidz.com will auction a gold and diamond tiara designed by the late Gianni Versace on March 23 to benefit the Aid for AIDS charity.
The tiara is set with more than 1,200 diamonds and is worth an estimated $3 million. It has been worn by Madonna, Amber Valletta and Donatella Versace, among other celebrities.
The opening bid for the tiara, which won the De Beers Diamonds International Award in 1995, is $699,000.
Up to now, the tiara has only been held only by private collectors, and this is the first time that it has been put up for sale.
A substantial part of the amount raised from the online auction will go to Aid for AIDS from USA.
