Gitanjali Jewelry Group to Polish Diamonds in Brazilian Joint Venture

Mining Weekly reports that the Indian fine jewelry group Gitanjali is planning to build the South American country's first diamond polishing plant in the town of Cabo de Santo Agostinho in the state of Pernambuco. The project will be conducted in partnership with the Brazilian company Gema do Piaui Mineracao (Gemapi), reported.
R94-million is to be invested in the new plant which will employ a local staff of  1, 500. The workers will be trained by Indian experts, and the plant will have the capacity to polish up to 150,000 ct/m.
Gitanjali will design the fine jewelry to be produced by the joint venture. The target export markets are situated in Asia.
Gemapi holds diamond exploration rights over 18,600 ha in the Brazilian state of Piaui. The two companies plan to invest $100 million jointly in exploring for diamonds in both kimberlites and alluvial deposits.
Gitanjali, which is India's only fully integrated diamond and jewelry manufacturer and retailer, is a DTC sight holder and a leader of branded jewelry in India.
Gitanjali owns the American diamond retail chain Rogers Jewelers.
