GSI Launches Minisite for India's Jewelry Sector

11 february 2009

Gemological Science International (GSI) launched a mini-website, www.GSIIndia.net, dedicated to India's jewelry industry, RAPAPORT reported. Mark Gershburg, GSI's chief executive officer (CEO), explained that the minisite concept will allow GSI to offer online services directed specifically to those in India without overcomplicating the company's main website.
The GSI India minisite lists suppliers of equipment and services in India, along with directories of jewelry-related associations, trade publications and retailers. The minsite offers a billboard on which individuals can post classified advertisements for available products or for help wanted. “GSI is known for its firsts...and these innovations, which are described on the new minisite, have resonated with our Indian customers,” said Gershburg.
The website plays a wider role than that of the business-to-business model, explained Gershburg, because it also incorporates business-to-consumer. "[W]e believe that by offering free classifieds and information on trade organizations and publications, we’re facilitating wider public access and better understanding of the industry....We also believe that in this tough economic environment, it is a useful platform for many sectors of the Indian industry to reach out to each other."
