Uzbekistan to be a new market for Surat’s c&p sector

29 november 2019

According to a TOI report, jewellery manufacturers from Uzbekistan have contacted the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) for direct B2B trade for supply of polished diamonds from Surat.
Uzbekistan will be a new market for Surat’s diamond industry and export potential of polished diamonds high as the jewellery made in Uzbekistan is exported to various parts of the world, including the US. At present, Uzbekistan jewellers source their diamonds from Antwerp and Dubai. If the deal for supply of polished diamonds works out then diamonds from Surat could be directly exported to Uzbekistan.
Regional chairman of GJEPC, Dinesh Navadiya, who was a member of CM’s Uzbekistan delegation told TOI, “The jewellery association of Uzbekistan has contacted us for the B2B trade in polished diamonds. A delegation of the jewellers from Uzbekistan may come to Surat to meet and finalise deals with the diamond merchants in Surat.” Navadiya added, “The jewellery manufacturers in Uzbekistan are paying higher rates to the middle man. Surat has the potential to offer diamonds at discounted rates.”
