ALROSA completes the purchase of Smolensk-based Kristall

rosimushchestvo_logo_eng.pngThis last Thursday, Russia’s Federal Agency for State Property Management signed an agreement under which 100% of shares issued by diamond manufacturer Kristall owned by the federal government are transferred to the ownership of ALROSA. According to the Federal Agency for State Property Management, the Treasury of the Russian Federation will receive 1.886 billion rubles as a result of this transaction.
Kristall is the largest diamond manufacturer in Russia and Europe, as well as the country’s major exporter of polished goods, the federal agency said in its statement, noting that “the vertical integration of the two companies will contribute to the development of the diamond cutting industry” and that “as a result of the transaction, the necessary competencies will be concentrated in AK ALROSA (PJSC), which will increase the competitiveness and investment attractiveness of the combined company.”
