De Beers’ ninth rough diamond sales cycle recovers to $455m

Anglo American said the value of De Beers' ninth sales cycle recovered to $455 million from the previous cycle’s $376 million.
The sales value for the period under review, which would however be adjusted next month, was slightly lower compared with $476 million realised, a year earlier.
"Following a seasonally quieter period for rough diamond sales, Cycle 9 saw an uptick in demand from our customers as retail orders increase ahead of the Christmas season," said De Beers chief executive Bruce Cleaver.
De Beers offered fewer rough diamonds for sale in the eighth cycle, reflecting the concurrent timing of the sight sale with the closure of polishing factories in India and Israel for the observance of religious holidays.
