Rough patch for De Beers as eighth sales cycle dips to $370m

De Beers said its eighth sales cycle eased to $370 million from the previous cycle’s $507 million or $494 million, a year earlier.
Group chief executive Bruce Cleaver said sales were in line with expectations, at what was a seasonally slower time for rough diamond demand.
“De Beers offered fewer rough diamonds for sale in Cycle 8, reflecting the concurrent timing this year of the Sight sale with the closure of polishing factories in India and Israel for the observance of religious holidays,” he said.
